Burnell Farms is going strong bringing us some great veggies! Several weeks ago they added Hibiscus Flowers, (great for drying and making Hibiscus Tea), Fennel, ‘Violet Queen’ Cauliflower, Baby Spinach, 5 Lettuce varieties. Burnell Farms also offers: Kale and Beets! The rain has slowed other things down a bit, but given some days of sunshine, things will soon be back on track!
Vicky of Fry Farm is offering this week! Asparagus, Lettuce Mix, ‘Cherry Belle’ Radishes, ‘French Breakfast’ Radishes, Hakurei Turnips and ‘Red Kitten’ Spinach! Actually the move took place a while back and George has had his hands full, building and re-vamping the property! These changes will ensure that we all will be getting their fresh Microgreens very soon. Can’t wait to enjoy their Wraps again!
Last week, I wrote that Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks had joined the Market last Summer – actually, it was last Winter! Wow! How time flies! We are just happy and blessed to have such a wonderful Gluten Free Baker with us!
Since I don’t feed the Black Lab Cinnamon Rolls, the package of 5 had to go in the freezer lest I eat them all in a couple of days! I L O V E Cinnamon Rolls, but, alas, they cannot be an everyday staple! While this solution was working, I wondered (out loud and in a phone call with Marie) if it would be possible to give me the rolls frozen and I could then let them rise and bake them when I wanted them. Marie gave me several as an ‘experiment’ last week! Oh. My. Goodness!!! That is what they were – pure goodness. The Cinnamon Rolls rose and I baked them in the toaster oven. Fresh Baked Cinnamon Rolls, Gluten Free – no muss, no fuss and delicious! Marie decided to put them on the Market (You can still get them already baked!) and this week, they are on special! Not only that, she has increased the offering to 6 rolls! Sweet Breakfast Treat or a quick dessert; these Gluten Free Cinnamon Rolls are tasty morsels!
While Marie is keeping us supplied with Organic Gluten Free Baked Goods, Dabrielle of My Daily Bread provides us with traditional wheat based Organic Baked Goods! From Challah, Sourdough, Ezekiel and other yummy Breads to Sweet Breads, Cookies, Jams and Jellies, Cheese Dips and Pasta Salads, Dabrielle is passionate about quality! Be sure and get your order in before close of Market!
Kathy Barnes is the Coordinator of the Lilburn Market as well as the owner of So-Koi. Kathy is an excellent seamstress and has Retro Aprons, Lanyards, Pillowcases, Checkbook Covers, Tissue Holders on the Market. She is passionate about living naturally and makes every effort to live ‘green’! Although always concerned about the use of plastic in our lives, further research lead Kathy to the decision that she wants to eliminate it as much as possible! To assist in this goal, she has created muslin Veggie Storage Bags and is now offering them at Market! Check them out on the Market and on the Farmers’ Sales Table this week at each Market! For more information about plastic and it’s horrible, destructive and toxic effects in our world and the ecosystem, click the link. This documentary is available on Netflix!
Kathy is also offering Turmeric and Cinnamon on the Market. Both are wonderful spice with medicinal components and qualities. (and the glass jars she offers these products in are just adorable!) Kathy will also be offering Coconut Sugar in the very near future. This sweetener is an excellent alternative. It’s low glycemic index and full, rich flavor make it my favorite sugar, both for baking and adding a touch to my coffee. Look for this option soon under seasonings.

Champaign, OH: Walkin' On The Sun
This is a love attack I know it went out but it’s back…
It’s just like any fad it retracts before impact…
And just like fashion it’s a passion for the with it and hip…
If you got the goods they’ll come and buy it just to stay in the clique…
(Smash Mouth – Walkin’ On The Sun)
Well, after a cold and rainy week, it looks like we are full steam ahead with sunshine!! So happy to see it’s return that it really does feel like you want to be walkin’ on the sun…
It’s the perfect week to begin another love fest with our little local market of love! Have you heard? Local is the new fad, it’s hip, it’s rad, and everyone wants to be a part of the local goods and the hippest clique around.
Most of us have been doing local all of our lives, in one shape or another. Most of us were raised on local/seasonal foods, we grew up in towns without big box stores, and we shopped at small, local places. We ate from backyard gardens, farm stands, roadside farm markets. The local grocery.
One such place that meant the world to my growing up, in the West End, was a small corner market called, Kadel’s. It was a local grocery, local meat counter, local produce, and a huge magazine/candy/soda area. One of the coming of age activities of the West End was to be able to ride your bike to Kadel’s. When you arrived, you would see a mountain of bikes that belonged to the kids of the West End. We could shop for penny candy, a cold bottle of soda, and Tiger Beat magazine:) The shop owners were a family. They knew us and our mothers all by first names. They kept a watchful eye on all of us. We would make our purchases, and then venture out to the sidewalk to all sit and plan the rest of the afternoon.
Bike rides in the country? A trip to the magical Pony Hole? Hanging out and listening to music? Swimming? Hanging out at the ball field?
Meanwhile, mothers and friends would be filing in and out for their weekly groceries. Everyone left with a smile, a wave, a shout to each of us. It was the local way in the mid 70s. Shop local, shop the way of the season, and do it in a friendly environment. We didn’t know that one day, this way of shopping and eating would be considered hip. For us, it was a way of life.
This is what our little local market of love reminds me of. A return to the local way of shopping. A return to the local way of eating. A return to the friendliness of local. We’ve got it all…and we do it all, locally. With a smile. With local goods. We see that local is now hip, again. We are cool with that. We are the hippest happenin’ spot around…shop us!
Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Fountain Fresh Dairy LLC: Salad greens are back!
Hello,
Just wanted to let you all know that we have some salad greens available for Monday evening pickup!
ALFN Local Food Club: The Market is Open with New Names (but familiar faces)!
Good Morning Market,
Spring has sprung and we’re well on our way to local food bliss. With each week the market selection expands with more delicious food from more of our old farmer friends. We’ve got some of both this week, including:
- Plenty of pasture-raised chicken and woodland-raised pork from Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative. Grass Roots is a newly formed cooperative of sustainable Arkansas meat producers, including our old friends at Falling Sky Farm. These growers got together to share the business side of farming – like accounting, purchasing, and processing – so that they can focus on being farmers. I’m excited about the expanded possibilities this cooperative can bring!
- We’ve also got leeks from Weal and Woe Farm, the recently re-located Bee in My Bonnet Farm from Katie Beaton and Andy Olson. Moving farms sounds like quite the chore, so I’ll make some potato leek soup in their honor!
- Freshly-sprouted microgreens from Food For Thought Farm. These tiny greens are packed with nutrients and flavor, and he’s got ’em in arugula, french salad, mung bean, and sunflower. A great, crunchy addition to salads, sandwiches, or stir-frys!
- Wonderful duck eggs from Bluebird Hill Berry Farm. I love poaching duck eggs and putting them on top of just about everything…salads, pizza, sandwiches, stir-frys…what isn’t better with an egg on it? They’re somehow buttery, soft, with the most delicious and bright yolks you’ll ever try.
- Lots of exciting new listings from Maison Terre Natural Products, including micro greens, pecan trees, and a sack o’ taters. This 7-gallon bag comes ready with soil and ’tater plant, just place on your deck and harvest in Autumn!
Happy eating!

If we don’t give them enough business, it’s hard for them to continue to deliver to us. Please let’s not let that happen! Tell your friends about us so we can keep the Growers supported as this is how they make their living. *_
