Champaign, OH:  All I Want For Christmas

I don’t want a lot for Christmas…
There’s just one thing I need…
I don’t care about the presents…
Underneath the Christmas tree…
(All I Want For Christmas-Love, Actually soundtrack)

So, it’s no big secret that I am ecstatic that my co-ed is back in the US from her semester abroad. She arrived, last night, at the airport. I ran and grabbed her just as soon as I spotted her coming out of the gate area. While away, she studied in Milan, she toured and did studies in Verona, Rome, Venice, Florence. She vacationed in Paris, Barcelona and London. She turned 21 while she was in Barcelona. She worked Milan Fashion Week, she was part of Milan’s Vogue Night Out, she was in and out of fashion studios and designers’lofts. She was living the dream…and she made the experience all her own.

Now, she is home for one month, she then returns to college, and graduates in the spring. Only to take off to her new life…wherever that may be.

This little hippie mom is so proud of her, so happy she is home for the holidays, and so excited that we shared dinner and wine, last night, and now early morning coffee. She truly is all that I wanted for Christmas, this year.

May everyone find the light and love of the season. May you find joy and peace and then may you spread it all around, to everyone, like confetti.

Today is Monday…we are seeing a really big market. Show your love to those around you and shop local for them. Shop local for yourself. Give local gifts. Give gifts that were lovingly prepared by local growers, producers, and artisans…

All I want for Christmas is love…for all of you…and if it’s local love, all the better!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Northeast Georgia Locally Grown:  Locally Grown - Availability for December 17th, 2014

Hey Local Food Lovers,

This is the last Locally Grown week we’ll have before Christmas (we’re closed for two weeks after due to the holidays). We have a ton of Christmas Specialty items that’ll make the holidays special: buche de noel cake, dried herb bundles, flan, Christmas cactus mugs, jerusalem artichoke soup, and if you’re hoping to introduce somebody to the Locally Grown market in 2015, buy a GIFT CERTIFICATE for a friend in any dollar increment you’d like. We have some nice new full color certificates!

We want to THANK all of you for a just incredible 2014 year! Really, this has been an incredible year! If all goes well this week, we’re likely to finish the year with sales above $75,000. Just for some perspective that’s about 60% growth from last year. What’s much more important than the dollars and cents, is that many more of you out there are eating local foods and eating local more often. Helping to make that happen is farmers who are working to grow more food, and grow it more months of the year. I know of several greenhouses under construction right now.

The expansion to Gainesville this year has really been something special. But it’s only the beginning. It’s really kind of been like a trial run up to now. In the new year we’ll be setting up a farmer drop off down there, so that even more vendors can join the market. We’ll also be launching a marketing campaign that should help all of Hall County, and hopefully even beyond that the market is there! We’re looking forward to some very fun events as well in 2015, and opportunities for you all to meet some of the farmers behind Locally Grown.

It feels early to be saying this, but we wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Everyone who orders meat this week should get it this week. Please don’t forget your orders (and remember it’s always a good idea to have a backup person you can call in a pinch to come get your order for you).

EAT WELL, and EAT WELL OFTEN, and THANKS!

Justin, Chuck, Teri, Andrew and all the growers, and all the volunteers here at Locally Grown!

Market News

I hope if you celebrate any of the many holidays that fall this time of year, that things are happy and bright for you. Next Thursday is Christmas Day, and so we will be CLOSED next week. If there’s anything you need for your holiday meals next week, be sure to order it for pickup this Thursday.

New Year’s Day is a bad day to hold a farmers market, but I don’t want you to have to go three weeks between markets, so we’re going to try something different this year. We will have a special ALG pickup day on TUESDAY December 30. I’m still working on details, but it looks like I’ll open the market for orders on the evening of Friday, December 26, and give you through Sunday night to get your orders in. Then on Tuesday, we’ll have pickups from 4:30 until 8pm, and just pretend like it’s Thursday. Some of our growers will be taking the week off, but most of them have told me they’ll have things that need harvested (and eggs that need collecting, etc.), so we’ll be here for them and you.

The Comerian is taking January off to remodel her new storefront in Comer, so stock up this week if you don’t want to wait until February. She tells me that her breads do freeze beautifully, so you can portion it out throughout the month.

This Thursday we’ll have a special evening for you. Kathryn from Beehaven will be there with her beautiful beeswax candles and balms, if you need to pick up some last minute gifts for someone (including yourself). Engelman’s Finest Ferments will also be on hand with some of his latest fermented products. I’ll have a pot of spiced apple cider going for you to drink, so feel feel to bundle up and hang out with us for a while!

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

The Athens Farmers Market is open on Saturdays at Bishop Park for one more week. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market is open throughout the month here in Athens, and you can find more information about them here: www.athenslandtrust.org. The Washington-Wilkes Farmer’s Market in Washington is open every Saturday 9-12 behind the Washington Courthouse. The Oconee County farmers market is open Saturday mornings in front of the Oconee County Courthouse. The other area markets I haven’t mentioned have yet to open for the season, so far as I know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Atlanta Locally Grown:  Available for Saturday December 20

I hope this finds you all doing well. Now that the markets are closed this is your chance to
Keep ordering fresh local produce.

Order up between now and 8 pm on Wednesday. We will see you on Saturday between 9-11 at your selected delivery location. We will spend 30-45 minuets at each location for deliveries.

Thank you,
Brady
