ALFN Local Food Club: Market Reminder- Last Call for Christmas!
The countdown to Christmas is well under way, but we have everything you need to minimize holiday stress and maximize holiday cheer. Starting with all the ingredients for a phenomenal feast.
- Starters: Kick your classic cheese tray up a notch this year with any assortment of the 19 different cheeses on The Market. They’re all winners, but make sure to check out the newest addition to our dairy team – camembert. This better-than-brie, bloomy-rind cheese is easy to turn into an impressive appetizer. Simply pop it into a ramekin, slice the top rind, slip in a few slices of garlic and bits of fresh rosemary, and bake at 350* for 15-20 minutes. Substitute a generous drizzle of honey for the garlic and rosemary if you prefer a sweeter starter, or bake one of each! Serve with bite sized bits of toasted ciabatta, and you may even decide to skip the rest of the meal.
- Mains: Nothing says “holiday feast” quite like a good roast beast. Whether it’s beef chuck, lamb leg, whole chicken, pork shoulder, or even buffalo brisket, we have the beast you’re looking for. Don’t forget the fresh herbs and organic spices that will supercharge that awesome, grassfed flavor.
- Sides: Cancel out a few of those holiday cookies by making sure you get your greens. Try a kale salad with toasted pecans, warm wilted arugula, or spiced sticky cabbage. Then cancel out the greens with a rich and tasty turnip gratin.
- Deserts: As stuffed as you’ll be by the end of the day, you can’t just skip desert. Good thing so many of our growers have thought ahead and have plenty of frozen fruit to pack into your grandmother’s perfect pastry dough. The only hard part is deciding what kind of pie to make. Blueberry? Blackberry? Strawberry? Maybe this year someone should invent the triple-berry pie. I wouldn’t say no to a slice.
Now that all the meal planning is out of the way, don’t forget about those last minute gifts! Sure, you know there’s a truckload of great gifts on The Market, but sometimes you just want to see something in person before you buy it. That’s why we’ll set up our Holiday Market extras table one more time this Saturday. This will be the your last chance to take a look (and a sniff!) at the wide array of giftable goods made by our very own farmers and artisans. Be sure to check it out. You might just find the perfect thing for that last person on your gift list, or even pick up something for yourself!

Champaign, OH: Drift Away
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul…
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away…
(Drift Away-Dobie Gray)
A crazy day that has dissolved into the kind of evening where drifting away sounds like the most perfect thing to do.
It’s already a crazy time of year, then I am adding more crazy by relocating the Cosmic shop, kicking off the process that is Art Affair, spending time with the Cosmic Co-Ed, and trying to get this holiday stuff all under control:)
What better way to help you drift away from the everyday, than with this little local market of love. Just knowing that I can place my orders, be totally taken care of for the next two weeks, with no hassle, no stress, and all goodness, makes me so happy. It makes me feel like I can mentally just check out, take a break, drift away…
You all need to try it if you haven’t already placed your orders!! This is the last market for the next two weeks. It’s the market right before the holidays. It’s the time when we can really help take the pressure off of you…
Drift away with us…give us your orders so you have nothing to worry about. AND…you will get your name entered into the drawing for the Market Christmas Love Playlist…what could be more fun??
We are open until 10pm, tonight….make me happy…
Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam
